Comment Moderation

The Comments page lists the comments other people leave on your Facebook Pages and Instagram professional accounts, including comments on posts you did not publish through PostRite. Reply as the account, hide or delete a comment, and mark it resolved so the team knows what is still pending.

Where it lives

Comments is in the sidebar, right below Chat, with the number of pending comments next to it. On a phone, open it from More.

Pending comments wait in a list until someone handles them.

What it shows

Every comment from other people is listed, on posts published through PostRite or not. The account's own replies appear inside each comment's thread and on the post's Comments tab. The inbox covers Facebook Pages and Instagram professional accounts (Business and Creator), connected with Instagram Login or via Facebook.

The other platforms (X/Twitter, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, Google Business, Discord, Telegram, WhatsApp, Bluesky, Mastodon) do not support comment moderation inside PostRite. Moderate those from their own apps.

The first import

There is no new permission to grant: accounts already connected with comment permissions work as they are. An account connected without them, or whose connection expired, shows a notice with a Reconnect link.

  • The first time anyone in the organization opens Comments, PostRite imports the last 30 days of comments for each account. The import runs once per account, and again after the account is reconnected or after 30 days without anyone opening Comments.
  • An account connected later is imported the next time someone opens Comments.
  • Very large accounts hit an import limit. The oldest comments are left out, and the page says so.
  • Comments that were already more than 24 hours old at the import do not land in Pending. They are under All.
  • If Meta throttles PostRite's requests during the import, the page says when the import resumes.

How new comments arrive

From the first time someone opens Comments, Instagram and Facebook send each new comment to PostRite, and it appears in the inbox within seconds (on Instagram, as long as the account is public). Replies written in the Instagram or Facebook app arrive the same way. If the account's card on Platforms or the Comments page says Meta isn't delivering comments for an account, reconnect it from Platforms: until then, new comments on it don't reach PostRite.

Finding a comment

There are three views: Pending, Resolved and All. Filter by account when you have more than one, by Hidden, or by a specific post. The list is paginated, and Load more brings the next page.

Each comment shows the post it was left on, with the post's thumbnail and caption, and a link that opens it on the platform.

What you can do

Reply

Answer as the connected account. The reply is posted under the top-level comment of the thread.

Hide / Unhide

Take a comment out of public view, or bring it back.

Delete

Deleted on the platform for everyone, after you confirm. It cannot be undone.

Resolve / Reopen

Take a comment out of Pending, or put it back.

The reply box names the account it posts as, for example Reply as @account. Resolve and next marks the comment resolved and opens the next one. Replying also marks a comment resolved, whether you reply from PostRite or from the Instagram or Facebook app. Pending and resolved are shared by the whole organization, so everyone works from the same list.

Answers you give often can be kept as saved replies and inserted with the button beside the reply box, or by typing / in it. The commenter's name fills in on its own.

Hiding vs. deleting

A comment's text cannot be edited once it is posted. What you can do is hide it or delete it:

  • Hide / Unhide: a hidden comment stays visible to its author and to anyone tagged in it, but disappears from public view. You can unhide it at any time.
  • Delete: removes the comment on the platform for everyone. This cannot be undone.

Platform rules

The app points these out when they apply:

  • Instagram does not allow replying to a hidden comment. Unhide it first.
  • Instagram and Facebook do not let an account hide its own comments. Delete it instead.
  • A comment removed on the platform leaves Pending and stays under All (and under Resolved if it had been resolved), struck through and marked Removed on Instagram or Removed on Facebook.

Changes in both directions

Replying, hiding and deleting are applied to the connected account right away: open the Instagram or Facebook app afterwards and you see the same result. Resolving and reopening stay inside PostRite.

Facebook tells PostRite when a comment is hidden or deleted in its app, so the change shows up on its own. Instagram does not: PostRite shows the change when someone opens that comment, or the post's Comments tab.

From a post

A published post also has a Comments tab, in its details panel and on its full page. Drafts, scheduled posts and posts awaiting approval have no comments to show. If the post went out to more than one account, a switcher flips between them. Editors and above can also post a comment from the account there.

  • Facebook Pages and Instagram accounts: every comment on that post, with Hide and Delete (Hide is not available on the account's own comments). Replying and resolving happen in the inbox: each comment has a Reply in inbox link, and the tab an Open in inbox link.
  • Threads: only the comments posted by your own account. You can hide and unhide them, but not delete them, because the Threads API offers no way to remove a reply.

Permissions inside PostRite

Every member of the organization can read comments. Editors, Admins and Owners can reply, hide, delete and resolve. A Viewer sees those buttons disabled, with the reason.

How long comments are kept

  • Comments are kept for 90 days from when they were written.
  • If nobody in the organization opens Comments, or a post's Comments tab, for 30 days, PostRite stops storing new comments. The next time someone opens Comments, the last 30 days are imported again.

Disconnecting deletes comments and conversations

Disconnecting an Instagram account, a Facebook Page or a WhatsApp number, or removing PostRite's access in Meta, immediately deletes its Chat conversations and any comments imported for it. After reconnecting an Instagram account or a Facebook Page, the last 30 days of comments are imported again the next time someone opens Comments. Chat history cannot be recovered.

PostRite only performs moderation actions that you explicitly trigger. We never hide or delete content on your behalf.
