Bluesky
Connect your Bluesky account with an app password to schedule posts to your profile.
How It Works
PostRite connects to Bluesky through the AT Protocol using an app password — a separate password you generate just for PostRite. Your main account password is never shared, and you can revoke PostRite's access at any time by deleting the app password.
Creating an App Password
- Open bsky.app and sign in
- Go to Settings → Privacy and Security → App Passwords
- Click Add App Password and name it (e.g. "PostRite")
- Copy the generated password (format:
xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx)
Use an App Password, Not Your Account Password
PostRite only accepts the app-password format (xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx), so your main password can never be submitted by mistake.
Connecting to PostRite
- Generate an app password (see above)
- Go to the Platforms page in PostRite
- Click Connect on the Bluesky card
- Enter your handle (e.g.
name.bsky.socialor your custom domain) - Paste the app password and click Connect
Custom Domains and Self-Hosted PDS
Custom-domain handles (e.g. @yourname.com) work out of the box. Accounts on a self-hosted PDS are supported too.
Supported Features
- Text posts up to 300 characters
- Up to 4 images per post (oversized images are compressed automatically)
- One video per post (MP4, up to 100 MB / 3 minutes)
- Clickable links, hashtags, and mentions (published as Bluesky rich text)
- Scheduled and immediate publishing
Best Practices
- Post consistently: Bluesky feeds are chronological — showing up regularly is what builds reach
- Use hashtags: they become tappable topics that help discovery in feeds and search
- Keep it tight: 300 characters rewards a clear, punchy message; put links at the end
- Cross-post smartly: schedule the same update to Bluesky, X, and Threads with per-platform tweaks
Troubleshooting
Connection fails
- Check the handle is spelled exactly as on your profile (with or without @)
- Make sure you pasted an app password, not your account password
- If you deleted the app password on bsky.app, generate a new one and reconnect
Post fails to publish
When publishing fails, PostRite shows the specific reason on the failed post. Common causes:
- Session expired: PostRite renews Bluesky sessions automatically; if the app password was revoked, reconnect the account
- Image too large: Bluesky caps image uploads at about 1 MB — PostRite compresses images automatically, but some formats (e.g. animated GIFs) cannot be converted
- Video processing: videos are processed by Bluesky after upload; if processing is slow, PostRite retries automatically
- Rate limited: Bluesky limits how fast an account can post — PostRite waits and retries automatically
