Connecting Your Account

Twitter uses the BYOAPI (Bring Your Own API) model. You need to create a Twitter Developer App and provide your own API credentials.

1. Create a Twitter Developer account at developer.twitter.com
2. Create a new App with read and write permissions
3. Generate OAuth 1.0a credentials (API Key, API Secret, Access Token, Access Token Secret)
4. Go to the Platforms page in PostRite
5. Click Connect on the Twitter / X card
6. Enter your 4 API credentials in the dialog
7. Click Connect to save

Supported Features

• Post tweets (up to 280 characters, or 25,000 for Premium users)
• Upload up to 4 images per tweet
• Upload videos (up to 2 minutes 20 seconds)
• Schedule tweets for future publishing
• First comment — automatically published as a reply to your tweet (up to 280 characters)

Character Limits

Note: Links always count as 23 characters, regardless of their actual length.

First Comment

Add a first comment and PostRite publishes it as a reply to your tweet as soon as the tweet goes out. It is the usual place for hashtags or a link, so the tweet itself stays inside its 280 characters — the reply is held to the same limit.

Media Requirements

Images

• Formats: JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP
• Maximum file size: 5MB (images), 15MB (GIFs)
• Maximum images per tweet: 4
• Recommended size: 1200 x 675 px (16:9) or 1080 x 1080 px (1:1)

Videos

• Formats: MP4, MOV
• Maximum duration: 2 minutes 20 seconds (140 seconds)
• Maximum file size: 512MB
• Recommended resolution: 1280 x 720 px or 1920 x 1080 px

Best Practices

• Keep it concise: Even with higher limits, shorter tweets tend to perform better
• Use visuals: Tweets with images get 150% more retweets
• Optimal timing: Post when your audience is most active
• Engage: Ask questions to encourage replies
• Hashtags: Use 1-2 relevant hashtags (more can reduce engagement)

Troubleshooting

Tweet fails to publish

When a tweet fails, PostRite shows the specific reason on the failed post (Platforms tab of the post detail). Common causes:

• No API credits / payment required (HTTP 402): your X API plan ran out of credits or requires payment. Check billing in your X developer account — PostRite flags this as payment required on the failed post
• Invalid credentials (HTTP 401): the API keys or access tokens you provided were rejected. Re-check them in the connection settings and reconnect
• Content exceeds character limit
• Duplicate tweet (Twitter blocks identical content)
• Media file too large or wrong format
• Rate limited (HTTP 429): PostRite retries automatically after X's rate-limit window (~15 minutes)

Account shows as disconnected

Twitter tokens can expire. Simply click Reconnect to re-authorize PostRite access to your account.
